Consumption of protein-rich diet and dairy products reduces the risk of diabetes: Study

Like hypertension, the problem of diabetes has become quite common nowadays. Almost every other person is vulnerable to diabetes. This disease is taking a very dangerous form, it can be easily gauged from the fact that not only the children are also vulnerable. If diabetes is not treated at the right time, it can cause kidney failure, reduced eye vision, and can also lead to heart diseases.

Diabetes is genetic in many people, but it is also related to our diet. A recent study has shown a relationship between people's food preferences with the prevalence of diabetes in India. That is, what people eat is directly related to whether or not they are victims of diabetes. In this study, it was reported that the consumption of high-calorie items like sugar and honey increases the risk of diabetes while consuming protein-rich food and dairy products in the diet can reduce this risk.

The study is based on the National Family Health Survey-4 (2015-2016), 2011 Census, per capita crop production data and consumption data of various food groups from the 68th round of the National Sample Survey. The study evaluated diabetic data as well as trends in food availability and preferences in various states.

This study found that cases of diabetes were more common in West Bengal and Kerala as people living there mostly consume non-vegetarian food. At the same time, the figures for diabetes were seen very less in those states where people prefer vegetarian food. This is because the vegetarian diet helps in managing diabetes and also regulates insulin hormone.

This research also found that extreme cases of diabetes were seen even in those states where people consumed more sugar and honey. However, this trend was not seen in states like Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Haryana. One thing also came out that the risk of diabetes can be reduced by eating protein-rich things like pulses and walnuts, cashew nuts, almonds, etc. At the same time, the figures of diabetes were less in those states where people eat more dairy products. On the other hand, diabetes disease is more prevalent in men than in women.
